King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford

DJBET电竞菠菜人 sport-image1.jpgAs you'd expect from a prestigious school, we take our sports very seriously. From high quality teaching and coaching through to our excellent facilities, there is something for everyone, a sport for all philosophy with a chance for the elite to shine and reach their full potential.

At curriculum level all students receive a two hour games lesson a week, with Lower School pupils having an extra hour Physical Education lesson a week.  PE is also offered as a GCSE and A Level option.

Yet none of this does justice to the sheer breadth of our Extra-Curricular activities.  The PE department runs a healthy fixture programme with schools throughout the county which take place at the weekends and mid week.  In the autumn and spring terms students participate in the traditional games of rugby, football, and basketball.  Then in the summer term the focus shifts to cricket and athletics.   Our teams regularly achieve district and county success.  We also have a number of individuals going on to gain honors at both county and even national level.  In additional to these sports we have wide range of opportunities to participate and compete in activities such as cross country, tennis, badminton and table tennis. These activities also boast many team and individual successes.

In recent years a number of extra-curricular sporting visits have taken place, including cricket tours to Barbados and Grenada and rugby tours to Italy and Portugal.  The PE department has also organised regular skiing trips, watersports holidays and visits to outdoor pursuits centres.

We also offer the opportunity for students to broaden their theoretical knowledge of their chosen specialist sport through the CSLA Award Scheme and by offering regular coaching and refereeing courses on site and locally.

The school’s main playing fields are located off site at the Bedford Fields.  This large area of green belt contains 5 rugby pitches, 6 football pitches, 2 cricket squares and 2 artificial wickets and an athletics track.  These excellent facilities, and the onsite gym, are complemented by a specialist fitness suite and PE classroom.  The new sports hall to be built over the next two years will include 5 badminton courts, full size basketball, volleyball and netball courts, indoor cricket nets and a fully equipped fitness suite.  These new facilities will enrich the present extra-curricular programme.

Sport at its best demands skill, team work, strength, courage and commitment.  We certainly enjoy our successes yet we also pay tribute to the creativity, dedication and co-operative work of all our teams – whatever the outcome.
